A 122 on 17' wheels . . .

First, this is all NEW to me. I have a 67 122 w/B20, separate header, single exhaust. It is almost all rebuilt 40k on a rebuilt B20. I've got Bilsteins on the way, all poly bushings to boot. I'm concerned about two things. I'm considering using progresive springs to either lower the car 1" (afraid of bottoming out) or to provide a supple and firm ride with the current height. I'm also concerned with whether the "slight", and tapered axle on the 122's, or the steer box will get the willies with this 17" set-up. Don't want to flip, or grind up the $1500 box. Seeking good safe ride. And any thoughts. Thanks a lot.
