Can in-tank fuel pump be removed with tank in place on 760 turbo wagon? Thanks 700

I have a 1990 760 wagon that is giving us fits at times. Its cuts out at times when the fuel level is down to half a tank. We have changed out about everything in the fuel system. The only thing left seems to be what might be wrong in the tank (fuel pump, hose, clogged strainer). I have looked the tank over and wonder what would be the easist way to get at the in-tank pump. Thanks for any insight.
