Okay over the weekend my car would not start, it cranked but no start. So after a post here on the board I decided to check the fuel pump relay. Pulled it out, played with it and it all looked fine put it back in, and then it started up. So to be safe went to buy a new relay thinking maybe the old one was failing. Put the new one in and it was fine for a few days. But now this morning going to work at 5.30 AM no start again, with new relay. So I come back inside get online and start searching the board for some answers. I decided to check the fuse panel to make sure fuse #6 (main fuel pump) had no corrosion. Well I pulled the fuse out and here is the strange thing, the car started and ran with the fuel pump fuse out. What is up with that?! It sounded like it wanted to die a little when initially started but it ran! So I turn it off put the fuse back in and it started up, but it still sounded like it wanted to die a little but eventually ran strong. I don't know what is going on here. I am not sure how this car started and ran when the fuse for the fuel pump was removed?
I had problems in the past with the 25A fuse next to the battery for the starter. Once in a while it wouldn't start, crank but no start, so I would replace that fuse and that would usually do it. There was some moister in there this morning, and I changed the fuse and blew some of the moister out of it, but it didn't fix it. I need to get the replacement holder IPD made for that fuse that is water tight. I don't know if that is the root of my problem or what. Any idea what is going on here, am I missing something?
Why wouldn't the car start until the fuel pump fuse was removed? Could the 25A fuse by the battery have dried up enough for it to finally start? Even then I do not understand why it would start and run without the fuse there.
In fact in runs when both the fuses for the main pump and pre pump are pulled. Just now I went back out to make sure I did pull #6 and I did, so I pulled both while it was running, ran fine.
Well at any rate she is starting up fine as if nothing happened. I am a little nervous that I am going to get stranded. I am going to order that replacement fuse holder in hopes of a resolution. Thanks for any responses or comments you can give.
