winter tire question 200

Okay I've been surfing the web and can get all the info i want about winter tires. But nowhere can I find any site to address my one simple question.

Everyone is persistent on not using summer or all-seasons in the winter. My questions is this... why can you not use winter tires all year round?

All the experts encourage winter tires for winter, blah, blah, ... i agree totally, but i can't find anyone that can tell me why i should take the winter tires off in the summer?

Sounds dumb, i know, ... but i would like a good explaination. Winter tires provide better traction, braking, ... so what's the negative side to driving them year round?
