I recently purchased a used 95 960. I went to change the spark plugs and on the no. 5 cylinder there was some fine brown dust on the plug wire. When I went to remove the plug I noticed it was not tight. It appears that the brown dust is blowby from the plug not being properly seated. When I went to put the new plug in it then initial few turn went nicely, however, it would not tighten properly. I got it snug but, then it seemed to slip as if it was stripped. It was late and I needed the car today so I just put it back together. It runs fine.
Is there a fix for a stripped plug thread without pulling the head? Or for that matter with pulling the head? I know for a cast iron head they make a thread insert. What about for these cars?
