Where The Devil is the Ignition Power Amplifier on a Square Coiled 240 200 1987

Hi,
Can anyone please tell me where the power stage amplifier on a square coiled 240 is? It's driving me nuts. For a week I've waited for the Haynes manual to come back and tell me where things are on my car. And now I'm more confused than ever. I recently bought a 1987 240 Wagon fitted with a B230K engine. Now the engine has a tendancy when running to almost cut out with the tachometer needle dropping almost to zero. If I lift off the gas the engine returns to normal. Now I've read up on the forum and others have offered advice that it may be the power stage or the ECU. Great I thought, I'll just order the manual and get down to work. No such luck. The haynes manual covers the ignition well, But all the diagrams and wiring diagrams relate to a standard bosch round coil. on top of that my distributor has no hall sensor. According to the manual this identifies the EZ 116K ignition system fitted to fuel injection cars. Great, but mines a Carburettor model. Can anyone help clear this up for me? My likely suspect on the power stage is a aluminium box fitted to the left wing. It has 6 wires coming from it. 3 per plug. Please tell me thats it.
