A while back Tippi was wondering what a transmission failure would cost her. A couple of days later my wife's 245 went from mild morning sickness, ie. reluctant to leave 1st gear when cold to "I'm failing now please fix me" mode.
Since I have no time whatsoever with new position (6 days 60hrs +) and medical problems in the family, I checked the local Volvo full service yard/repair shop, RC imports in Chula Vista CA, total price $400 with a 90 day warantee. This price was good for both the early mechanical speedo or later electronic AWs and even for the ZF boxes.
The car shifts like new for less than a couple of car payments on a new beer can. While no where near the $150 of a pick and pull tranny that I would have put in back when I remembered what my house looked like, it was still well worth fixing the old beast.
