I bought me a Volvo 760 GLE -83 (PRV-V6 Engine) just recently and a week after my alternator seems not to be charging my battery. All the idiotlights came on and a while after the whole car died because of the battery running low on current. I've put in a new regulator/brushes in the alternator. And that did the trick the first time i started the car after the repair, but the next time it did not charge again. The strange thing I noticed when I changed the brushes was that they were unevenly worn away, I dont know if thats of any importance. But it made me wonder if the commutator is done for. I bought a new genuine volvo battery also but that didnt help. After that I went under the car and used a voltmeter on the alternator between the thick red wire (about 6mm²) and a less thick (about 1,5mm²) red wire. And between those wires there was 0V with the engine running. I've measured over the battery and theres about 11-12V which is normal if the alternator wount work. And shouldnt there be atleast 11-12V to the alternator anyway to those wires, even when its not charging? What can be making the fault? I can take pictures if needed to solve problem.
Thanks in advance,
