I am new to this page. I just noticed these messages. I have exact same problem with my 90 DL wagon standard. My car loses power, pushing the accelerator doed not help, but the car does not die. I can shut off the engine and restart and it will go. In addition, it knocks a lot too. I notice that this usually happens when the upshift light starts blinking when I am in idle waiting for the traffic light to change.

Any help is appreciated.

From time to time while driving, my 240 wagon (auto. trans.) will lose power. The engine returns to idle speed, the accelerator does nothing, and the car seems to be in neutral. If I stop the car and turn it off, it will re-start and drive normally. Naturally my mechanic has been unable to recreate this problem, he says the on-board computer checks out OK, as do fuel injectors, and other fuel system components. I heard a call on Cartalk recently regarding a similar sounding problem that referred to a sensor on a flywheel in the transmission to keep things in sync with the engine. THere had been a Volvo service update on this, although I dont recall the technical name for it. Thoughts on the issue?

Your car doen't have a flywheel speed sensor for the ignition, so the answer they gave is N/A. You do have a Chrysler ignition system with a reputation for trouble. The next time it does its number try wiggling the connector on the black box on your right inner fender next to your w/s washer reservoir. If this does it then your connector needs to be cleaned and connectors tightened. If this isn't it then it could be the ignition module/computer. The harness needs to be checked also for any damaged wires.
