Installing new wiring harness 200 1983

The usual advice to make installing a new wiring harness for 240's is to remove the intake manifold...BUT what if I remove the intake air hose from the AMM and the throttle body (have to clean it anyway!)? Will this give me enough clearance to use my big hams to reach the connections at the side of the engine/head?
Any ideas?
