Hi guys,
Just thought you might find this useful. The dash lighting on my 1990 745 (specifically the headlight, fog, power antenna on the left of the wheel, and the defroster, power sunroof switches on the right side) was not illuminating.
I bought some green LED's at a car part's store. These are the kind that "the kids" are using to "dress-up" their Honda Civic's, etc. They are pre configured with the appropriate resistors and have wire leads on them.
I simply removed the old, burnt-out bulb, and soldered the LED's lead wires to the spade connectors for the dash lights. I then used electrical tape to seal the solder and firmly attach the LED assembly to the switch. The LED's fit perfectly in the holes for the switches/light guides that normally hold the standard bulb.
Now those area's are brightly lit with green lighting that matches the rest of the dash, and even dim when I operate the dimmer rheostat. It all took about 1 hour, including 20 minutes for me to get the guts to forcibly pry the trim peice that surrounds the climate control/ignition switch.
The cool part about LED's are no heat and life span that will probably outlast my brick.
Hope this is helpful.
Gavin
