Limited slip questions not related to acquisition 140-160

So... I've already got my limited slip for my '70 wagon, so I don't need to find another (though I would love to have a stack of 'em)..

My first question is...why the hell wasn't that a stock item? I see absolutely no compromise in driveability, the the benefits are so great high performance driving on dry roads, and perhaps greater on wet.... and even moreso on snow/icy roads...

In the last week, I've been able to get my car up several snowy hills that 4wd subarus would have had problems... (I do have new studded snows, but without that rear end, I still wouldn't have made 'em)

The next question is about durability... IF a ltd slip rear fails, does it act like a normal rear end? Or will I just not go anywhere? Are there some sort of friction clutches in there or something?

If it does fail, are they rebuildable?

And last, is there anything I should do to avoid failure? I did just change teh fluid, and add some of the ltd slip fluid additive.... Anything specific I should avoid doing?

Thanks for any insights... I love this piece of majic and I'd like to keep it around as long as possible...
