yet another fuel pump senario 200 1982

Hello Bricksters. Here is yet another fuel pump related problem. I have an '82 wagon with 278KM on it. Just recently I had some work done to my car at a local shop, mainly adjusting the mixture and a fuel injection tune up. Over the last little while my car has been sitting for weeks at a time, I've put a tank of gas through it in the past 3 1/2 months. Last weekend I drove the car and noticed that there was a different noise coming from the main fuel pump, a noise I would describe as a howl. It does lessen on occasion, but only for brief periods (seconds really). I checked the in tank pump, to eliminate it from the equation, pulling the fuse while it was running, it's nice and quiet (slight hum). I have read the archives regarding the fuel regulator, and some speculate, and others believe that this can be the source of the noise. Where is the regulator mounted? Is it the cannister on the firewall directly in front of the driver? (the one that also sounds just like the fuel pump?) If the regulator is working properly should you hear a "glug...glug...glug" sound, barely audible, coming from the gas tank? Lastly, is the main fuel pump available from sources other than a Dealer? I found an in tank pump at a local parts store, but no main pump. Regina, Saskatchewan currently has no Volvo dealer (I'm just living here temporarily while schooling, PS, if there are any Bricksters here that want to donate some floor space in their garage to let me change a fuel pump, let me know). Thanks for any insight! Chad M.
