I bought one of the CD manuals that were available on Ebay from a certain seller. I have to say my experience was less than satisfactory with this seller. My manual arrived 20 days after i paid for it. The seller has been subsequently been removed from ebay and he has received 14 negative feedback. But finally the manual arrived.
The CD is very good. It is not a bootleg. It is painted on the front and the back is silver. It says version 7.0 and February 2002 even though it is a 94 960.
It is very detailed with diagrams and a lot of text. It covers everything except the most basic maintenance items. It doesn't tell you how to change the oil or brake pads, but it does cover how to rebuild a steering rack, brake caliper, engine, retorque a rear suspension to spec, rebuild an "automatic locking differential" etc.
It covers the differences between the timing belts over the different model years and things like that. The manual is obviously intended for someone with more than just basic car care experience. It’s written for a dealer mechanic. But Volvo does not publish it. Most of the diagram captions end with "Courtesy of VCOA".
What i really liked is the information on the automatic transmission. It covers all the possible electronic failure points, diagnostic techniques beyond the usual codes and electrical diagrams. In reading it i get the feeling that it was translated from Swedish. Some of the step by step instructions is a little choppy. It also covers some info on specs for 940 and 850 engines as well as OBD2.

Considering the trouble i had to go through to get this CD as well the ridiculous prices Volvo dealers like to charge for the privilege of having this information i have come to the following conclusion: If anybody wants this manual (94 960) you can have it for free. I'll mail a couple of copies and maybe those people will do the same for others.
