k&n air filters: pros and cons

Hello:

One Volvo I have came with K&N air filter.
It no longer good as it had a hole in it.

I am debating whether to replace the K&N filter with another new one
or to find the air filter unit that originally came with the car.

This is the first time I have a K&N air filter.

I looked up how much it would cost and the price is $68.00 for my model.

I wonder what experiences persons have had with K&N air filters.
What are the pros and cons of the filters.
What would be your recommendation.
