Help! My Deck Lid won't stay open! 700

Today I added a spoiler to the decklid of my 89 740, and now the deck lid won't stay open... this is with brand new gas springs installed.... Is there a specific gas spring to use with the spoiler? The 900 series had spoilers, but the gas springs have different ends on them, however the 850 series ones seem to look very similar to the ones i would need.. I'm thinking of trying a pair of those.. Anyone have a known solution??

BTW, the spoiler is a OE Volvo one, and it weighs in at a hefty 18 pounds or so!
