Car idles rough...like a diesel....when in gear and brakes on. If I take it out of gear, idle smooths somewhat. If i keep it in gear, brakes on, and apply gas to say 1000 RPMs, idle is smooth. When I go from park to reverse or drive, car clunks into gear, idle goes to 500 RPM, then back up to 750.
Below is a copy/paste of a message I just posted. Could the two be related?
Gas Mileage Dropping and Smell of Raw Gas from Exhaust ] ]
The subject about sums it up. I am getting around 17 city. Used to be 19. Don't do much of what one would consider highway driving. Maybe 6-7 miles home from work is highway depending on the route I take home (can take all city roads if desired). Once a month I'll run about 40 to 60 mile round trip at 65 to 75 MPH just to cleanse out the system.
I have been reading posts about 20 in town, and 23 highway. Any suggestions as to where to start to solve the subject problem, then get the mileage up.
Oh yeah....It's a 1991 744 B230F w/ automatic w/ locking torque converter.
TIA
