As many of you know I purchased a very nice 1988 760T with a broken connecting rod last year. This afternoon I got started on pulling the engine, and everything was going smooth until I tried to remove the four bolts which hold the torque convertor to the drive plate (flex plate). Below is the previously posted picture of the hole in the engine. YOu can't see the top of the hole, but it is about 6" high".

Since the car was being driven on the freeway when the rod broke I figured the kinetic energy of the spinning crankshaft had probably broke everthing out of its way and the engine would turn over with a little help. Nope, not a chance, it is not about to turn over. I have had a four foot cheater bar on one of my 1/2" drive ratchets with a 24mm socket on the harmonic balancer bolt. I have the harmonic balancer bolt well into the yield range, and the engine won't turn either way.

My question to the brickboard is this, will the torque convertor pull out of the front of the transmission without damage to the transmission if I just pick the engine up and pull it forward? I have lots of Volvo experience, but my experiences are mostly with the manual transmission cars. If necessary, I can pull the engine transmission together, and I have also an extra AW71. But that is a long load to remove on this 760 without help.
