check valve/fuel pump 900 1996

I read in the FAQs that there is a seperate inline check valve but that must be in older cars. The dealer says the check valve is part of the in-tank pump and have to replace the whole thing. S.A.V.E. will sell me a Bosch pump and also lists a seperate check valve for only about $12. Can I replace just part of the assembly in the tank? Where can I find drawings of this? Can anyone help me sort this out? Thanks.
