M45 vs. M46 for durability/power handling - 240 track car 200

My local sanctioning body will now allow 240s in vintage racing, those over 25 years, anyhow.

I'd like to build a 76-7 242 around a B23E engine I can obtain. The engine comes with an M46, but I am concerned about the durability of this unit, vis a vis all of the stuff involved in the overdrive.

This would be a track-only car, so I'd have no need for overdrive, anyhow. With a 3.91 or 4.10 axle, and the venues being road courses, it would be all about 2nd, 3rd, 4th.

Should I ferret out an M45? Or is the M46, with overdrive disabled, just as beefy?
