Ticking noise 700 1985

My 85 740 has a loud ticking noise. At first I thought it was the time signal pips on the radio, but it turns out to be the clock. Evry second, there is a "pip" in synch with the second hand. It does not come through the radio, but sounds like a speaker noise. Just started this a few weeks ago. No other apparent problems. Any suggestions ?
