Floor jacks and stands How? 200

This is a very humbling question to be asking, but how on earth do you use them.
Yesterday I borrowed my sisters boyfriends jacks and stands, I jacked the car('90 240 DL wagon) at the jack points and was ready to put the stands under but could not figure out where to put the them. How do you jack a car at the jack points and also use the stands at the jack points, there is no room for both to fit.
Any explanation/tips on where and how to jack would be great!
