low muffled noise from gear box 900 1995

My 95 960 just began to make a low muffled rattling noise that seems to be coming from under the gear box region. The rattle is constant when small washboard type of road. Also, when I apply the brakes and when I accelerate from a stop I hear a low muffled click. I tried to drive a bit with my door open to see if I can get bearing on where the noise is coming from but to no avail.

Any suggestions or similar problems.
