Hey you guys
I changed my water pump this week and when I started the engine to check for leaks, I immediately noticed the engine was running very rough. When I took it for a "round the block" field test, there was no power. Tach showed high (2-3K) rpms, turbo boost was in the yellow, but all I got was a "bog" sound as it crawled down the street.
When I was changing the water pump minutes before, I turned the crankshaft pulley (to remove the fan belt) and the engine rotated, but I don't remember seeing the timing belt turn, maybe it did.
Is it possible that my timing is now off?
I DID NOT REPLACE THE TIMING BELT. APPEARS TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION, AND MAY HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY PREVIOUS OWNER.
I realize that turning the engine over (by the crankshaft) shouldn't normally make the engine go out of time, but I can't figure out what happened.
Today I literally changed 10 feet of vacuum lines, since the FAQ says that my symptoms could mean a vacuum leak. I haven't used the propane test yet, can't find my propane nozzle.
What do you guys think? It sucks watching a VW bus get off the line ahead of me at a green light, you know.
cheers
