High pitched whine in rear 700

1990 740 260+K miles. Thinking it is fuel pump (don't know which one).
whine is sort of pulsing, but yesterday noticed when I turned on headlights it became more constant. Could you folks give me an idea of what I am to worry about and where to begin troubleshooting. I would like to stop the noise altogether. Thanks
