Stalling problem when declutching to come to a complete stop (continued from a long while back) 200 1982

A while back, I posted a question about a stalling problem. I got some answers, but didn't get time to follow up on them. The thread quickly scrolled away, of course...

1982 245. Engine is a B21F non-turbo originally sold in California. It has a white distributor; the emissions sticker contains timing information that matches the LH-Jetronic / MPG version (12 +/- 2) (but everything else on the sticker has faded away). A recent Smog Check found the actual ignition timing (11) and idle speed (about 750) to match that version.

Problem: engine often stalls when coming to a complete stop as one presses in the clutch. Watching the tachometer shows that the engine rpm falls nearly to zero when the clutch is pressed and not immediately re-engaged (as one would do when shifting), then recovers to idle speed if it does not stall. If the air conditioner is on (even just a little), normal idle speed increases a bit, and the stalling becomes less frequent.

I remember that the previous thread mentioned some wires that could be attached incorrectly. Which wires, and what other problems could there be that could lead to this situation, if any?
