Thanks to everyone who replied to my previous posting about a rubbing / pulsating effect coming from the rear of the car. As predicted, it looks as if it's a problem with worn engine and gearbox mounts! These are due to be replaced shortly.
I now have another problem rearing it's ugly head in the shape of poor performance and increased fuel consumption.
Acceleration is now rather sluggish although, motorway cruising speeds seem mainly unaffected.
Tick-over / idle speed appear to be OK!
I guess I'm looking at a dying CAT or O2 meter, as has been mentioned many times on this forum.
This leads me to my question, here in the UK, can the CAT be replaced with just a standard downpipe bearing in mind, and I'm not too sure on this, that only cars built after 93/94 had to have a CAT in the exhaust system.
A friend of mine who owns a mid 90's built Lancia Dedra turbo, runs it for most of the year with a standard downpipe, only replacing it with the CAT when the MOT is due!
Any idea on cost in the UK if the CAT has to be replaced?
Cheers.
