OK, I've successfully pressed out the old rear axle bushings on my 1985 240 DL and it was no picnic but I've heard putting the bushings in is a bit easier if I can figure out how to use the tool.
So I put the bushing pusher on the bolt with the head in the center of the car , then I slip the bushing up against the pusher. I next put the bushing (with the arrow facing down) up against the face of the center bracket (closest to the diff) and the threaded screw is sticking out through the outer bracket (next to the wheel) by about 2 inches. But the bolt is not long enough to go through the receiver end cap and I can't get a nut on it.
Even if I thread the endcap all the way down into the threaded coupler so that the face of the endcap is flush with the outer surface of the outer bracket there is hardly any threads sticking out of the end cap to get a nut on.
I know I must be doing something wrong but I don't see how the bolt is long enough with the added length of the bushing.
