Well, it started to drizzle outside but I had already removed the door trim and insulation, (drivers side front door). The insulation removal was the tedious challenge, trying not to tear it or cut it while cutting through the adhesive.
I found a piece of black plastic in the door well about 4x5", with a broken edge on the long side. There is a 2" neoprene type gasket applied to the edge opposite the break that looks like it was used as a cushion stop. Is this the up stop? I couldn't tell where on the window assembly it went and the Haynes book and FAQ doesn't have a detail. The window looks like it will easily come out of the track and the channel removal dosen't look like a problem with the help in FAQ.

A few questions, please:
How is the window reinstalled into the channel part that holds it, and how do I keep it there? Haynes said to remove it "use judicious use of a rubber mallet", and "Refitting by reversing the removal operation". It looks like a just a rubber U strip in the channel.
Where can I find a replacement for the piece of broken plastic part that could be a stop?
Every thing else looks solid, motor mounting and the tracks, but I can't determine if I have another problem that caused the window to separate from it's channel.
