During a recent timing belt replacement, I noticed that the older belt (garage replaced) was actually at around 11:45 not 12:00 at engine TDC. This was just one tooth to the left. At TDC #1 piston all the way up, intermediate pulley and crank at correct mark.
I repositioned the cam at 12 o'clock with new belt. I did notice though that there was some valve spring resistance to keep it there, it was happier at 11:45 'ish...
I put it 12:00 regardless, the car has been running great ever since, no apparent difference.
This was my first timing job so I am not sure, but I would have though there should be zero spring resistance at TDC. Is this correct? Assuming this is correct, what could have caused this? How should I proceed?
Thanks,
Greg Mustang
