I remember seeing somewhere a chart showing the numbers cast and
stamped on the side of Volvo B20/B30 engines that converted them
to year models and types. I have partial data (up to 1968) in a
Volvo "Tech Tips" booklet but it does not include what I need.
Right now I have 2 engine blocks of which I would like better data.
The numbers on them are as follows (first 2 digits cast on the block,
the remainder stamped into bosses just below the top of the block on
the left side):
49 8196 10932 This is the engine in my 122 wagon.
49 8284 32754 This is an engine I got from my son-in-law Andy,
that I am building up (VERY slowly) for the "Yellow Peril".
I am pretty sure that the 49 XXXX is the type designation and the last
5 digits are serial numbers. If someone can interpret the type designations
for me or direct me to a source of that info, I would indeed be grateful.
