Well my experience with automatic transmissions has been limited to "take it to someone" but I decided that the pan gasket looked easy enough...it was, for some reason I had bought 3 quarts for the job... new gasket in...Haynes says 5 quarts. my race car building freind thats helping has 2 more we dump them in fire it up... trans fluid on the floor o/d silonoid o-ring...several brews and the o-ring in...(yep he had one) by now it's 2:00 am... next morning... fired it up went home (about 2 blocks)... check trans fluid...way to much fluid...over coffee tring to put off draing trans fluid in rain...I decide to look at the owners manual for the first time (i can't believe how well these are done wish I'd looked at it months ago) It says 7.8 quarts...well I drained out the excess but what happened? I know they hold a lot in the valve body but 4 quarts??? (it was about a quart over) It's an 86 245 dl b230 pretty much standard issue I don't what the trans is I don't even know if there were any optional ones this one is the same as the other one i have.
