All:
I've got a line on a 1993 940T wagon with low kms and vg-exc. condition (112k km, one owner, full service history) potentially being traded at local Volvo dealer. Dealer did quick inspection to determine trade-in value only, not full safety check etc. A/C is not working and I would like to determine the possible range of expense to get it up and running. I've read the threads and this sounds like a C$800-C$1000 job ballpark. Could any owners with experience in this problem let me know what might be user-serviceable vs. what will have to be done by an a/c shop? Where would a shop start to determine if the problem was compressor, switch, condenser, evaporator, etc?? Would it be practical to get a diagnostic done on it, then try to source the parts myself for someone else to put in with the specialized equipment for handling the freon? Are some Volvo-only parts required, but others available as good quality aftermarket substitutions?
All thoughts appreciated. Thanks very much!
