I have read up lots of threads on the fuel system and at last feel I am beginning to understand how the pumps and relays work. But I have not picked up exactly where the fuel filter is located, only that it is obviously very important that it is not blocked.
There is a black canister underneath, mounted next to the main pump. I thought this was some kind of pressure reservoir - or is it the filter? If not where is the filter? I have followed the pipe along to the engine and there is nothing else.
Also, when I turn the ignition on, the main pump gives a 2-second burst. I have always assumed this is a good sign - it means the pump is working and the fuel is primed up to pressure. I read though that this is accidental, depending on the crank position. Mine always does it. On the very rare occasion when it has not, the engine wouldn't start and I had to give the pump a nudge to get it running. So what is happening?
Many thanks
