sedan power antenna - are aftermarket replacements any good ? 900

My 960's power antenna is dead. It doesn't just need a new mast, the motor is dead and does not make a whirring sound when turning radio or car on/off. It's stuck in the up position, so I get radio reception OK. but I want to restore it's up/down function. The factory replacement is a bit pricey, but I've found a source for an aftermarket replacement that's less than half the cost. Anyone ever tried a non-Volvo replacement, and if so, was it any good ?
