slight stumble or miss at low RPM's 200 1985

My friend drives his car like a rasin, is in second gear at 10 mph, and 4th by 35. As he enters each new gear the engine very slightly stumbles or hesitates.
When I drive the car, and use the gears, there is no stumble what so ever, I have no idea where to even begin to look for the issues. And no, he refuses to learn a new way to drive the car.
