4ht gear problem 900 1993

I have a 93 940 turbo. Sometimes the 4th gear duisengaged light comes on on the dash. The engine can then not be driven faster the 40mph because it sounds like is can't do it. Pushing the buttom on the gear shift doesn't work. There is no rhyme or reason when this may happen. Its like it has a mind of its own.Sometimes the buttom will get it to stop and sometimes is just does it on is own. Please help me fix this.
