Shifter knob/shaft removal 200

I wanna take off my shifter knob in my car, but the stock knob is on there pretty good. I don't wanna tap if off with a hammer and damage the bushings on the shifter, so I prolly have to take off the entire shifter shaft to do it properly.
Any tips as to how to do this properly without damaging anything?
