Heater hose replacement and heater control valve on 95 945 900

Is the FCP Groton cheaper generic heater control valve ok to use for 70K routine replacement and maintenance purposes ok?? Its a lot cheaper than the OEM one?? Also was looking today at replacement of the heater hoses...upper one looks easy to remove from firewall heater core male threads and swags into the red pipe. the lower hose looks like a bear where it connects to the block below the area of the flame trap...Any advice on how to get to that?? Also,,,I know Im supposed to be careful on removal from firewall/heater core stubs...whats the best way to do that..I know it is going to be a bear to remove..should I use a utility knife and try to slit it open like I did on the power steering reservoir hose when I flushed that??? Thanks..JOHN
