As a safety conscious Volvo driver (aren't we all ?) and using the old Amazon on a regular basis, I have been worried about the location of the fuel tank at the rear of the Amazon and I have been looking at options to relocated the tank. In newer cars fuel tanks are positioned away from the rear of the car. When I saw this picture (which makes me cry) on an Australian Volvo site I was really interested what happened with the fuel tank of this 123GT ? Did it rupture ? or leak ? The owner told me that the accident happened in 1995 when the car was parked on the side of the road and was hit by a SAAB ! from behind. Nobody was in the car. The GT was pushed into another car parked in front and the Fuel tank did rupture, anyway it was almost empty and there was no explosion or fire. He was lucky. The GT was a write-off and George bought another GT, probably the best 123GT in Australia.

What interest me is whether anybody has moved the 122S/123GT fuel tank in a safer location. I know it has been done in Rally and Race cars, although I'm not sure whether that was for safety or roadholding reasons.
