no OD, pulsating alt light 200

Hi - I've got a weird problem for which I hope someone might have some suggestions for fixing.
My 1987 240 won't go into OD. I swapped out the relay behind the glove box with a working one and it still doesn't work. The audible "click" happens with both the old and new relay, so that was probably not the problem. Additionally, the alternator and OD switch will "pulsate" intermittently, but will stop if I turn the car off and then on again. I've tapped/banged/wiggled around most of the wiring inside the hood and nothing works. Any thoughts? Thanks.
