A fellow had an add in the paper trying to sell his 88 244 for only $200. It would be a great car for my son but here is what is wrong with it.
According to his mechanic, the number 3 cyclinder somehow became starved for fuel and burnt a valve. The owner thinks he caused this by using too much injection cleaner or something like that. This then allowed compression into the engine which caused the front seal to blow out (and leak oil). He claims it would be cheaper to drop a new engine into it than fix it and knows a junk yard that would sell me an engine for $200-$300.
Although the car has 300k, the owner claims it has many road miles and is in excellent condition. The body looks like new, the AC is working fine etc.
Would it be that difficult to fix this myself or would it be better to have a mechanic do it or just drop in a new engine?
Any othe rsuggestions? Thanks in advance!
