940 GLE B234F 50K miles.
Last year I had the famous oil pump pulley bolt break on me, causing my interferance head to crash and 2000$ later my car is running great again.
I recently noticed an archived post about a plastic tensioner gear? pulley that was once used on these heads that has the flaw of cracking off teeth and hence losing timing and hence the famous head damage all over again... of course I want to eliminate this possibility now ASAP. Apparently the replacement for this is metal now.
Questions:
1.. What years were they using this plastic gear? I thought I saw pre-1989 B234F but not sure... My car is a 1992 (1991 as per US models).
2.. I'd like to take a peak if mine is plastic or not. By removing the top timing belt cover, should I be able to see and inspect it?
3.. Where can I buy the metal gear?
Thanks in advance,
Keep them rolling.
