Hi,
My 92 740 wagon has once again lost its charge after a year. I have 2ce brought it to certified technicians to have the R12 A/C fixed, and spent significant money getting Orings and such replaced so it would hold. Nevertheless it leaks, and the upshot is I don't have A/C.
I have been reading up on these retrofit kits that get the system on R134a and I am sorely tempted to try it. I have read all kinds of warnings, and all kinds of stories from people who are pleased with the results of using these kits, and I'm not sure what to think... it seems to me my Volvo would be a good candidate for such a cheapo conversion since the factory actually has a conversion kit... which implies a lot of the internal components of the A/C is designed to handle R134a.
Has anybody here tried them? Does anybody have experience (even 2d hand) that shows I shouldn't try this? I am thinking that 40 bucks complete is a pretty good deal... if it works. And if Mr. A/C decides to leak down over 12 months, I spend 5 bucks for a can of R134a and not worry about what I've done to the Ozone...
I await your input.
cheers
Thaddeus
