940 Automatic tranmission problem 900

A friend of mine has a 93 940. He changed the automatic Transmission fluid
and the filter recently ( For Normal Maintenance) and since then he has had
problems. The problem is that he is experiencing high engine revs before it
shifts. It will shift on its own at about 4200 rpm.
Also when he checks the fluid level at first it is bone dry. then he puts
the dip stick back in and the level is acceptable.

He has pulled the filter multiple times to check and see it is in correctly.

Any thoughts on what could be the problem.
