intermittent chirping sound at ingnition contact 700 1985

Hello,

I am encountering intermittently an electrical "chirping" sound from the dashboard, which shortly thereafter becomes more muted, like a clicking sound. Eventually, after about 7 (annoying) minutes, the noise stops. When I start the car up and drive around, the sound keeps up for a while, at the same steady tempo.

I am also hearing this as soon as the key partially enters the ignition --before anything has even been turned on.
