I have a 1984 240, automatic transmission. Recently, I have been having trouble engaging the overdrive. At first, if I disengaged it, and then tried to engage it again, it would take a few minutes but it would eventually engage. Today I drove it for 30 minutes, and the whole time it didn't engage.
The light on the dash that says when it is disengaged is on, and when the light goes off the od engages. So I'm thinking it must be a problem between the switch on the gearshift, and the mechanism that engages/disengages the overdrive.
I'm not a mechanic, and I don't know too much about cars. I'm just a poor college student :) I just put over $400 into my car, getting it fixed up for a roadtrip I'm going on in two weeks. This od problem is kinda bumming me out, but I'm hoping it's something easy to fix. *fingers crossed*
Thanks in advance!
