1992 960 volvo gear position senser failure post trani service

My 1992 960-wagon Check engine light came on exiting the parking lot of Jiffy lube after T-Tech Trani service. No fault could be diagnosed at JL (they don’t have the diagnostic unit for this car).
The car had no obvious issue and is running fine.
At the local Volvo dealer I was told the check engine fault was due to a burnt Gear position sensor.
Upon further questioning the Volvo tech he described the cause of the failure of the gear position sensor to be the unit was over heated. And the replacement cost is $550.00

Has anyone else experienced this type of failure due to a T-tech service?

Note: Volvo does not recommend this type of transmission service.
