same results as an adjustable cam gear? 900 1993

Hello all,
I was wondering this while looking through the IPd catalog last night. The adjustable cam gear, could you do the same thing by adjusting where the timing mark on the camshaft lines up. I mean like align all timing marks, then adjust the cam gear clockwise one tooth (or CCW)? Would this work or just srew things up? I think that I would not mind a little bit more low end torque. What do you think???
