Reset ECU before swapping AMM? 200 1989

Hi, I am a bit curious about the right procedure for testing AMM (Bosch 016).
If the AMM is bad, the ECU may have incorrect settings/data.
Should I pull the power to the ECU before trying with a new AMM, or should I just swap and see if it idles better?
